Like a whole lot of folks on my LJ flist, I've decided to go ahead and start an account at Dreamwidth. Please don't panic--I'm not leaving LJ, but plan to crosspost entries. That means all my fic/ramblings/news/etc. will still be on LJ; they'll just be on Dreamwidth as well. Should anyone want to add me over there, my username is slightly different than on LiveJournal. (It's the name I've used nearly everywhere else for many years, but by the time I got to LJ it had already been taken by someone who hasn't posted at all in several *years*--grrr!)

So...if you're interested, I'm at katstales.dreamwidth.org on Dreamwidth. :)

*crosses fingers for successful crossposting*

So tis executive decision time--we are SO eating out tonight. Will hopefully be on chat later, but prolly not till late as groceries still need fetching and new bathmat will need to be acquired asap.

Did I mention that I really hate Mondays?!!!

Title: It's The Little Things
Rating: PG (mostly for violence and possibly a wee bit of 'colorful' language on Ronon's part *grins*)
Pairing/Characters: Gen fic with team and no pairings
Disclaimer: Don't own 'em & not making any money off this--if I did or I were, we'd SO be having a Season 6!!!
Timeline: Set early season 5, shortly after John's recovery from events in "The Seed."
Summary: The team is returned to Atlantis after being regressed to childhood while investigating an offworld Ancient facility. With no memories of their adult selves, the four must work together to not only find a way to cope with their current situation, but to eventually reverse the effects and save themselves from impending death. Chaos, mayhem, and madness occur along the way, of course!

The beginning of the story is here in Part 01.

This would be the part with Ronon's wee bit of 'colorful' language. I tried to get him to let me change it, but he was stubborn and insisted that I leave it as is. So if you're offended by what he says, the blame lies solely with him. *wink-wink*

The muse seems to be more in the mood to cooperate this month--so far. I'm praying it continues beyond just this first week, but I suppose I'll take whatever I can get, lol. Anyway, as I've had several days in a row now of 1k+ progress, I thought I'd go ahead and post a progress report. :)

For those of you wondering how I'm doing in the [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout venture? Um, well...better but not spectacular. I'm slowly but surely catching up though, so we'll see. Thankfully I have a lot of time to make up the January deficit--provided the muse will stick around! Here's the little widget-thingie with the gory details:

For those who don't know or haven't already heard about this, hackers changed the message on an electronic road sign on a highway near Collinsville where I live. I understand the officials concerns and they are right to address them, but ya gotta admit it *was* kinda funny. (And no, *I* didn't do it! Nor do I have any clue as to who did.)

A friend of mine has made a video trailer for his upcoming graphic novel for children. He put it up on youtube and lately there have been a lot of nasty comments and low ratings. If anyone has a free moment to watch and give it a more appropriate rating (and perhaps even leave him a *sane* comment!) I know he'd much appreciate it. Thanks! :)

Oh, and if you any *constructive* criticism about the video for him, he'd seriously LOVE that, lol. :)

I fear there is a possibility that I might, possibly, perhaps be just very slightly addicted now. *headdesk*

First I adopted an egg that hatched into Jarhkore. Adopt one today!

Then, fearing Jarhkore would get lonely, I adopted Lephistra. Adopt one today!

Any help you might want to give them in growing up would be sorely appreciated. *hugs flist*

Oh, I also happened to see a shiny blue egg when I just *happened* to be wandering through the cave the other day and I couldn't resist picking that one up also. And on my way out I spied a nifty looking egg with a shield and grabbed that also. :D Then tonight I just *happened* to be walking through again and saw one that looked all rough on the outside so I picked that up also. *headdesk* (Don't worry, I have kinda-sorta banned myself from the cave until these have all hatched. *grins*)

Adopt one today!

Adopt one today!

Adopt one today!

Any clicky's you might have to spare for my wee little dragon-lets and eggs would be appreciated and make me awesomely happy. :D (I have been clicking on any and all eggs/dragons that I see on my flist, too, btw. Even if I haven't commented, lol.)

katstales: (John-this sucks)
We found out last night that a co-worker of R's was in a bad car accident on New Year's Eve. Yep, you guessed it, they were hit by a drunk driver. Mike, R's co-worker, and his wife had just left the party they'd attended and hadn't even made it a quarter of a mile down the road when the drunken idiot crossed the center line and hit them head-on. Apparently this happened at the crest of a decent sized hill and they never saw the guy coming until it was way too late. Mike is in intensive care with some internal bleeding is reported to be doing all right so far. His wife is not doing as well, however, and they aren't sure she's going to make it. In addition to internal damage, both of her ankles totally shattered on impact. If she does make it, she's going to be facing months of treatment and recovery. They have two small children at home, ages 2 & 4.

Please pray for them/send good vibes/send good thoughts their way if you would.

katstales: (Atlantis-snowglobe)
As if things were crazy enough around here with company coming for several days Christmas and playing taxi driver for the son whose car is toast, my daughter's car was stolen last night! So after the police reports and all were filed, a friend gave her a ride back home from the bar where her friend was playing DJ for the night. We only found out this morning when she asked for a ride to work, at which point she told me she also needed another key to the apt. Apparently, the thief filched her keys from her purse, including her key to the apt. So yay, now we have to have locks changed as well. They recovered the car a mile and a half north of the town where it was stolen. One of the front tires was blown after hitting the curb where the thief abandoned it. (The keys were still in it, thank goodness, but I'm still having the locks changed. I may not have much, but what I do have I'd like to keep thankyouverymuch!) They think they know who took it, but will have to wait for it to be dusted for prints and processed before she gets it back. Then there is the matter of the bill for the towing company to deal with, along with replacing the tire when she eventually gets it back--just what she needed to do there, shell out all the extra $$ right at Christmas! *fumes*

The cops think they know who did it and asked if she wanted to prosecute. She said yes, to the fullest extent of the law, as she thinks she knows who did it also. Seems she gave a casual acquaintance a ride to the bar and the freakin' moron got completely and totally plastered (i.e. drunk for those unfamiliar with the slang), then started a fight and got himself kicked out of the bar. She told him she wasn't ready to leave yet and since he started trouble when she specifically told him not to do that, he could just walk to the gas station up the road a short distance and catch a ride from there. Apparently the cops picked him up for being drunk about ten minutes after he'd left the bar, but he was much further away than he should have been able to walk in that amount of time. So they're pretty sure he did it, which should (hopefully!) be confirmed by the fingerprints. So we'll have to wait and see on that, I guess. Still, it's gonna make things interesting this week if I have to be taking her to work as well as get everything else on my list accomplished. I've still got a ton of baking to do (haven't even started on the massive amount of cookies I bake every year yet *sigh*) along with the usual chores. Oh, and sometime before Wednesday night, I need to wrap presents. :P

On the plus side, most of the cleaning is done. This morning started with a trip to Best Buy for R to exchange the laptop that he bought a week or two back because he found a better model at a comparative price that included a better printer than the one he bought a couple of weeks ago. (The one he took back? This would be the same one he bought after returning the one he picked up at WalMart on Black Friday because it was a better machine at a comparable price, plus it included an antivirus package and an all-in-one Epson printer, which the one from WallyWorld did not have. *headdesk*) Then it was on to Starbucks for a Peppermint Mocha Twist and an apple-bran muffin, as I had not had breakfast yet. Then stopped at the store to rent the machine and came home to clean the carpets. Once that was done, also made a trip to the grocery store to pick up the fixin's for the soup we'll be having on Christmas Eve, plus some stuff to fix for dinner tomorrow and Tues. We need to go over a couple of the more high-traffic areas before we return the carpet cleaner tomorrow, but that shouldn't take long. So that pretty much leaves the baking, wrapping presents, and laundry on the must-do before Christmas list. Ugh.

I know I haven't been around or on chat much lately and as much as I'd love to change that, it probably won't be happening until after Christmas at the earliest. :( Miss chatting with all of you guys and look forward to being back on YIM on a nightly basis. *hugs* Hope things have been going much more smoothly for all of you! :)

What Your Cute Monster Says About You

You are a well balanced person. You have all aspects of your life happily in order.

Whenever you have a choice in life, you try to choose the middle path.

You inner demon is melancholy. You can be a bit moody at times.

People think you're cute because you are easy going. Your live and let live attitude is charming.

katstales: (NaNo-Damsel in Distress)
WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!! IT'S DONE!! FINISHED!!! COMPLETE!!!!! *does happy dance*

Ahem, sorry. Got a bit excited there. :D But dang, I am SO flying high here!!

Here's the final widget-thingie post for this year:

My NaNoWriMo Progress

So I am now three for three at NaNoWriMo, but I only have *two* unfinished novels!!! *does more happy dancing*

Tomorrow I will get back to finishing the SGA kidlet-fic as I still have...*checks calendar* seven more days of November left! So more frantic writing will commence at various write-ins until I run out of story or month, whichever comes first, lol! And now, tis off to bed for me, as this will be one HECK of a busy week here. Hope you all have had a great weekend and will have an even better week ahead!!

katstales: (NaNo-caffeine lethal dose)
Okay, so I totally suck at updating, but I have been managing to keep the words flowing, despite the fact that RL was doing it's level best to knock me down. But I persevered and I have now crossed the 50k mark for the third consecutive year--yay!!

The unofficial total to date is 50011, though I still have a bit more story to tell. I think it will end up in the 55-60k range when all is said and done. After the holidays are past, I'll see about getting it edited a bit and uploaded to the comm that the lovely [livejournal.com profile] karri_kln1671 made for me so that I could do just that. :D

Anyway, here's the little widget-thingie:

My NaNoWriMo Progress

Now I am off to sleeeeeep and then it will be off to Starbucks tomorrow to see if I can finish this off once and for all--yay!!! :D

ETA: For those non-NaNo people who are sitting out there scratching your heads, the green part in the title comes from the color of the word count bar on the NaNo site. It's blue until you hit 50k, then it turns green until you get it officially verified, at which point it turns purple and sports a nifty "WINNER!" in the middle of it. That will happen sometime on Nov 25, which is the earliest you can submit things. :D

katstales: (NaNo-Coffee Touching)
So before I go face plant (and hopefully onto the bed because the floor is not good for face planting, trust me on that one *wink*), I had to share the good news for today.

I hit--and passed--the halfway mark!!! *does happy dance to end all happy dances* The word count is currently sitting at 28303--yay!

Here is my little dashboard widget-thingie to prove it:

My NaNoWriMo Progress

I managed to write 6252 words (or somewhere thereabouts--math is not my strong suit when I am this over-caffeinated and sleep-deprived, lol) today. I celebrated hitting the 25k barrier with a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate from Starbucks, btw. It was *heaven* in a cup, I tell ya! :D

So, enough rambling. Hope you all have a terrific start to your week and those of you who are feeling under the weather...FEEL BETTER FAST!!! *huggles all of flist to bits*

katstales: (NaNo-caffeine lethal dose)
So there has been much progress, but not much updating, lol.

Here's the scoop for anyone who's interested. )

Here's the nifty dashboard widget thingie:

My NaNoWriMo Progress

So yay--crossed the 20k barrier and am well on the way to meeting my personal goal of 25k by Sunday night. Hope y'all are all having a great weekend out there! :)

katstales: (NaNo-Damsel in Distress)
I was planning to post links to the writing prompts from the No Plot? No Problem! kit but hadn't had the chance to go hunting for them till now. Unfortunately, I have discovered that I began with card #5 and some days I posted multiple prompts and others only the one. So to make it easier on myself for next year, I'm going to to post them all directly instead of linking. They will be in groups of seven which I intend to post once a week.
Here are the first seven: )

And there you have 'em, seven prompts for each day of the start of NaNoWriMo. Hope you find them helpful--no matter if you are struggling or not! :)

katstales: (NaNo-Kill u nxt Chapter)
I finally called it a night around 3am, but I did manage 2k before I stumbled off to discover where I left the bed yesterday morning. *grins* Had some family stuff going on, so I missed the election hoopla but I also didn't get to settle down to write until around 11pm. :P

So here's my nifty dashboard widget-thingie:
My NaNoWriMo Progress

I'm at 12061 right now, but there is a write-in at Starbucks tonight and I'm hopeful of breaking the 15000 word mark by the time I head home from there. Will need to make a pitstop at WallyWorld after the write-in, so I'm not sure I'll be home in time to catch anyone on YIM. Again. :(

Hope things are going well with all of you out there, too. Happy Wednesday!!

katstales: (NaNo-Unruly Characters)
I got off to a slow start today and never really recovered. My female character has now decided that she wants to be a Rodney McKay wanna-be (attitude-wise, that is) and I have pretty much decided to let her, lol. I don't have the time or energy to fight her so I'm not going to.

My worst day word count-wise yet, but still I'm over 10k words at this point so I am not going to complain, lol. Other than some sinus-allergy crap going on, I really don't have much of a reason as to why I didn't meet my goal. Maybe the muse is just running out of steam already, lol. So I fell short of the 3300 words I'd planned, but was still well over the daily minimum of 1667 for a Nov 30th finish.

So here's the word count widget-dealie:

My NaNoWriMo Progress

(And YAY!! My little dashboard-thingie is working now!! *does happy dance*)

Hope you're all having a great week so far!

katstales: (String of Obscenities)
So. Day 2 is now behind me. Things did not exactly go according to plan, but I managed a fairly respectable word count anyway. So there. *sticks tongue out at Fate like 2-yr-old*

The plan: hit the write-in at Starbucks this afternoon and get or exceed my word count target for today, have dinner with R & Kidlet #1, take said Kidlet back to her father's (a half hour drive each way), and then come home in plenty of time to hang out on YIM and chat with peoples, and MAYBE work on finishing up an SGA pinch-hit ficathon story. (Think Team Sheppard as kids wreaking all sorts of havoc on the adults--seriously WAY too much fun!!!)

The reality: unexpected company, a fall foliage photo-op field trip for R so babysitting Kidlet #1 falls to me, and only an hour at Starbucks in the afternoon with aforementioned Kidlet in tow because, you know, babysitting.*headdesk* By the time R wandered into Starbucks around 4:30, I had managed a whopping 400 words. (No, there are no zeros missing there. *cries*) R then, of course, proceeded to fill me in on all the details of the photo-taking field trip so by the time 5pm rolled around and it was time to leave for dinner, no more writing was accomplished. *mumble-grumble* So went and had dinner, drove the kidlet home, dropped R off at our place, then headed BACK to Starbucks at 8pm for a serious word count session. Left at 11pm when they closed with a total count of 8016 words for the weekend. Not bad, especially considering how little I'd managed before that last session at Starbucks!

Here's the official little widget-thingie:

So, now to buzz through my flist and email before hitting the hay for tonight. I'm hoping to manage at least 3300 words a day, which would put me in the winner's circle by mid-month. R is taking vacation the week of Thanksgiving and there are some things we really need to get done during that time off. This, of course, means there won't be much time for writing, so I need to get my 50k in before that week starts. I just hope I can keep up the current pace, lol.

Hope you've all had a fantastic weekend!

katstales: (No Words Uploaded)
Yes, I am aware that I have not posted here in ages. Way too much going on with RL to get into at the moment and I'll try to post something on that front soon. But it's November now, which means it's all about the words, lol. I will be attempting to post daily updates for NaNo all month, so wish me luck! *grins* I'm also hoping to find the time to dig out links to the writing tips I posted my first year, so look for those soon as well. Also, for the first time ever, I'm also going to attempt to post my story as I go to an LJ comm that the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] karri_kln1671 made for me. The link to that will posted here once I have actually posted the first part of the story *there*, which will happen as soon as I'm finished working on it, lol, hopefully tomorrow. :)

Anyway, I'm off to a great start. The words are flowing much better than last year, so I'm hopeful that this trend will continue and I'll be finished early. *crosses fingers*

Here is the graph for Day One:

(And just in case the NaNo site is down again, the total for my first day was 5,149 words. WooHooo!!)

So now it's time to stumble off and enjoy that extra hour of sleep that they were so thoughtful to give us. :D Hope you're all having a terrific weekend, whether you are NaNo-ing or doing something else!!

To those I promised a con report, here goes! :D

Thurs: After a somewhat rocky start to the trip, I managed to find my way to MediaWest Con in Lansing, MI. I ended up taking a later flight than scheduled, but it all worked out for the best and I was able to meet my roomies at the airport instead of the hotel. After picking up a rental car, we headed to Bennigan's (broccoli bites!!! YUM!!!) for dinner (after a quick trip through the sleezy liquor store right across from the entrance to the airport *g*). After than it was onward to the hotel and check-in, and after a quick trip to the store to find what we needed for our door decoration, it was time for a nice little tour of the halls to check out all the dealers selling from their rooms. We picked up some pre-con orders and caught up with some old friends along the way. Then it was back to the room for the night, to work on our door decoration and sleep. (which I was more than ready for after being up since 4am. Blech!)

Friday: Bright and early, two of us made our way down to use the exercise equipment (y'all be sure to tell Doc that I have been a good girl and have used the stationary bike and doing my exercises for my knee every single day since I got here. We'll just keep the part about not doing any of it on Thurs between us, 'kay? *g*) After we all showered, it was time to head down for breakfast. We got there toward the end of the buffet, but other than the biscuits being a little hard it was very good. By the time we finished eating, it was almost time for registration to open so we headed there and picked up our stuff. The dealer's room was open, so we headed off to see all the stuff with the hot boyz spend money. Lots of money, lol. By the time I'd covered most of the room, my knee was begging for ice so I headed up to the room while the others tried to see who could empty their bank accounts the fastest. *g* We managed to get the door decoration up and sat back to listen to people laugh, which thankfully many people did. :D Picspam to follow shortly. Late lunch/dinner was at BD's Mongolian Barbeque, after which were totally stuffed to the gills.

Saturday: More shopping (yes, we did have some money left after Friday, lol--really!) after work outs and breakfast and many checks of the art show. (One of my roomies did some stained glass and hand-made some beaded items to enter. Six of her pieces are going to auction this evening--wooohooooo!) Her Torchwood square sold, but didn't go to auction. Her BSG Eye of Jupiter (which also looks awesomely good, btw) and several other non-fannish pieces had enough bids to take it to auction. She also made some glass beads and made bookmarks and bracelets (including Harry Potter!) and all of those sold as well. We went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse (Y.U.M.!!!!). There was a slight mix-up with the steaks, but the strawberry Margarita was AWESOME. Once again, we were totally STUFFED by the time we left, so after a brief stop at Target we headed back to the hotel. Two of us walked off the meal (my knee was not happy with the idea, so I passed on that one *pouts*) and two of us took a nice little nap. Other than that it was a fairly quiet day. Oh! On the way up from dinner, we met John and Rodney (action figures) in the elevator, the two having just returned from a nice little romp in the hotel pool. *giggles*

Sunday: Same routine as the other mornings. Workouts, then showers, then breakfast, then a trip to the art show room to check on bids. I didn't find anything that I wanted badly enough to fight for, so I didn't bid on anything. :( Wandered the halls and dealers room a bit more, then came up to grab a book and head down to the courtyard to soak up some rays. (Not too much though, as prescriptions say no prolonged or excessive exposure. :( ) THen came back to the room and started typing up this report. Then we went to dinner at a local place across from the university (Michigan State) called Pizza House. I shall spare you all the poultry teaching/sheep teaching discussion that took place on the way there though. *g* I have a feeling we will be heading back there next year. *g* They had Chicago Stuffed pizza!!! Was VERY yummy. I was good and had salad so as to get some veggies in, so that canceled out all the calories from the pizza and cheesebread. *nods* Now we are chilling out and waiting for art auction to begin in about an hour. :D

So that's it for now. Picspam to follow at some point tonight or tomorrow. Probably. Maybe. *g*

Yikes, where the heck have the last couple of months *gone*? It's been ages since my last update, so I'm going to try to do something about that and get back to posting regular writing updates again. Who knows, maybe that will actually help me get back on the right track with writing again. *sigh*

So, what have I been up to? Well, not much writing that's for sure. :P Mostly, I've been busy focusing on getting my knee in decent working order again. I was doing therapy three times a week for month and then was cut down to two sessions for the past couple of weeks. Next week he's having me only come in once, so we'll see how that goes. Right now, I still have the annoying click but at least it doesn't hurt. And really, as long as I wear the blasted brace, it doesn't really click very much anymore. So it's going well and though still not quite normal, it's much better than it was. I am even at the point where I think I can live with it even if it doesn't ever get any better than it is presently. And how awesome is my chiro? Last Friday, he gave all of his patients who are moms a fresh carnation and a coupon for a free 10-min massage! He said he was making it his mission to see that all of "his Moms" were happy. :D I swear if this guy ever moves away, I'm going to have to follow him, lol.

On the "OH! Shiny!!!" front, our tax rebate/stimulus money came in last Wednesday afternoon. Two hours later, it was pretty much gone, lol. But the nice people at Dell are currently working very hard to make me a shiny new laptop that sounds super-awesome. :D And I am trying very hard to not feel guilty about spending that much money, lol. (My current laptop is over three years old and showing signs of more problems in the near future. Between that and the tiny hard drive, it was time to do something and the rebate provided the perfect opportunity to replace it.) Now if I can only make myself stop checking the shipping status every five minutes, I'll be all set. *vbg* You can expect some picspam after it arrives, though according to Dell's current schedule it will not be here until the end of the month. *cries*

On the writing front, things are going very slow. Maelstrom, the ThoughtCrimes fic, is coming along very slowly, but there has been some progress. And I am very excited about my NaNo novel again! I have finally come up some solutions to a number of problems with it, so now it's just a matter of making myself sit down to do the edits/adjustments/rewrites. But really, it was a MAJOR step for me just to identify the problems and come up solutions; hopefully the rest will come along fairly quickly now, too.

Okay enough rambling for now. To all the Mom's out there, hope you have a very happy Mother's Day! To everyone else, hope you have a terrific Sunday also! :)

I've been teh suck at updating again, I know. *sigh* Lots been going on here, tho not much of it falls in the Good-Stuff category. But things could be worse, because instead of Bad-Stuff mostly it's CouldaBeenWorse-Stuff.

As some of you know, my knee began to make this weird clicking noise late last week. There was no pain so I figured I'd just watch it and see what happens.

Well...something did happen. *sigh* When I woke up today and started to get dressed, I noticed that it was swollen. Like, really swollen. *sigh* So I have an appointment at 4pm and I guess we'll see what the problem is--I hope! *fingers crossed*

So anyway, if you have a spare prayer/good wish/good knee-vibe handy, I could certainly use some.

Oh, and to my chat-sisters...I may be late tonight, depending on how things go. *glares at stupid knee*

How Rude!

Earlier today, my daughters and I took the kidlets to lunch at McDonald's. The kidlets love going there because it's one of the few in the area that still has an indoor playground. Daughter#1 and I, along with kidlet#1 met daughter#2 and kidlet#2 at 1pm, hoping the worst of the lunch crowd would be gone.

Sadly, this was not the case and the place was still extremely crowded. (Mostly with a whole lot of other parents/grandparents with kids, as the weather was too cold for a trip to the park.) We got there before the other 2 and went inside to see what tables might be available. Kidlet was very upset about something, because as soon as we pulled up she started to cry. Not sobbing, but the tears were forming. She didn't want to tell us what, so we went inside and managed to get lucky, finding a table for 4 with another small 2-person table next to it that was empty right across from the registers. So Kidlet#1 and daughter#1 sat down at the small table and I took a seat at the bigger table. I was still trying to find out what was bothering the kiddo, so I was kind of turned sideways in my seat, but it was still plenty clear that I was sitting at the table.

Warning! Rant about rude people ahead! )

I haven't updated again for awhile, my bad. I (knocks on wood) seem to have finally kicked the stupid flu/cold/sinus thing that had me feeling crappy for close to a month. Blech! So last week I was finally able to start catching up on some stuff that had been left to slide for far too long.

This way to update and picspam-age! )
