katstales: (Kidlets-rabbit ears)
Kidlet#1 is spending the long weekend, so instead of going back to her Dad's today, she gets to stay until tomorrow evening. This is good for both her and her mother, but not so much for my headache...

Anyway, the poor kidlet had a tough time today. First, she got up to find her largest goldfish, Hog, floating belly up. So after a proper funeral/flushing, she seemed to bounce back okay and we are off to buy some more fish tomorrow before she goes back to her Dad's.

Then came the next tragedy. R decided to kick back in the recliner and nap for a bit, only he forgot the cardinal rule when kidlets are around: *ALWAYS* check before sitting down! So he did not check and therefore he didn't notice what, or should I say who, was in the chair already...

Pooor Butters, may he rest in peace. )
katstales: (John-wet whumped)
I feel like I'm spamming the flist today with three posts, and I'm really sorry for that. But I was just over reading Joe Mallozzi's blog and found something that I just *had* to share with someone or I might...EXPLODE! LOL!

Here's the excerpt that has my fangirly squeee in overdrive:

"A final of Alan McCullough’s Daedalus Variations came out today and we shifted focus to Alan’s second - extreme Shep-whumpage - script, co-storied by Robert C. Cooper."

*whimpers pitifully*

Isn't it time for season 5 to start yet? *headdesk*

katstales: (John-Are you serious?)
The muse finally decided to get it in gear last night and I managed to put together enough words for a tag to Outcast for the [livejournal.com profile] sheps_atlantis comm. Even though it isn't the typical sort of tag, [livejournal.com profile] karri_kln1671 said to post it as a tag, so that's what I'm doing. :D

Title: Mr. Sheppard Goes to Washington
Rating: PG
Category: Gen
Word Count: 2482
Characters: Patrick & Dave Sheppard
Pairings: None
Challenge: Outcast Weekend Challenge on [livejournal.com profile] sheps_atlantis
Spoilers/Warnings: Um...wee bit of language on Patrick's part?
Summary: When Patrick Sheppard returns home from Washington after attending an energy symposium, it's up to Dave to determine what has put his father in such a strange mood.
Notes: This is a tag for Outcast, though it actually precedes the episode, as Patrick is still alive. It was inspired by several elements of the episode, however, in particular Dave's assertion that his father had regretted the rift between them and John's statement that Dave takes care of things.

For the girls in chat, who never cease to amaze and inspire me. You guys are AWESOME!

Okay, so it's February, not December and the 11th, not the 25th, but still it sure feels like Christmas around here! :D

Why? Well...

-- One, it's 18 degrees out there and snowing (btw, that's F, not C)!

-- Two, I did my taxes and we're getting a total refund of over $850--yay! (This is good because we just found out yesterday that in addition to the $300 we spent on tires, sometime in the next few weeks we will need to replace the struts also, which will be another $400-$500. *sigh*)

-- Three, when I logged into iTunes to look at some music that was recommended, I noticed that a download had started. I thought it was a podcast, so imagine my surprise when I discovered it was the next SGA ep which has not yet aired! (though I will watch it again on tv when it's broadcast on Friday anyway *giggles*)

-- Four, the nice man from the post office brought me an envelope from [livejournal.com profile] alasse_fae with the most yummy picture of Shep and a Wraith Queen that was autographed by Andee Frizzell!!!!! I was SO not expecting that--thankies, my friend, you are SOOOOO AWESOME!! *smooches and mega-huge tacklehugs!!!*

And now R has arrived home safely and soundly, so my day is now officially perfect. *grins like a mad-grinning-thing* Now to serve up the chicken and dumplings that I had cooking all day while I was busy doing the taxes so I can spend the evening in chat! *still grinning like a mad-grinning-thing*

:D

Title: Sins of Our Forefathers
Rating: Teen (or PG13 if you prefer)
Pairing: none
Word Count: 4505
Disclaimer: SGA is owned by MGM, SciFi, Acme-Shark, and others. Tragically, I am none of the aforementioned. *sobs*
Warnings: Despite certain appearances, this is NOT a deathfic. Not permanent death, at any rate. ;)
Summary: While attempting to finalize an alliance on another planet, things don't go quite according to plan and John nearly pays the ultimate price.

Notes: This was originally written for the One Hour of Hell challenge at [livejournal.com profile] sgahcchallenges. That challenge had a 4000 word limit and this, the original ending, was a bit too far over to fudge and I cut a lot to post there. So even if you've read that version, the ending posted here is a bit more detailed and contains additional characters.

I managed to grab a few caps of the SGA gang from the People's Choice Awards. It wasn't the highest quality clip and I did what I could. I'm certain there are probably better ones out there by now, but if you haven't seen them yet...

Go here for Teh Purdies! WARNING! NOT DIAL-UP FRIENDLY!! )

I don't mind sharing these, but please do comment/credit if you take/use them. Thanks!

I know, I haven't posted here in ages. I totally got swallowed up by RL and family holiday stuff, but thankfully that's over for the year. Don't get me wrong--I loved it all and had a total blast! But as enjoyable as it was, it was also exhausting and I'm looking forward to a more normal schedule again. For a taste of Christmas festivities at my house, you can go here for a bit of picspam.

In amongst the holiday madness, I've been pondering possible resolutions for the New Year. I've already committed myself to a healthier lifestyle and have been watching what I eat and working out since last August, so the whole diet/fitness resolution-thing feels a bit like cheating and kind of a moot point.

So I think I'll be going a bit off the beaten path this year and making a few resolutions that aren't quite typical--which actually fits my taste far better than the usual lemming-type stuff and following the crowd. :D

My resolutions for 2008... )

Okay, I've bored you all enough for now. It's late and I should head back to bed to try to sleep for awhile again. I tried earlier, but as usual, I woke up an hour later and couldn't get back to sleep. :P

Happy New Year to one and all!

Uh-oh!

T'was Weigh and Measure day at Curves today. I wasn't quite as careful as I should have been for a couple of weeks, but forced myself to get back to better habits this week. I really didn't know what to expect when I stepped on the scale. Last weigh-in was early Nov, so there was Thanksgiving and several parties since then. I thought I did pretty well in choosing healthy things over all, but I did have pie at Thanksgiving and again the day after. And I did indulge in BBQ instead of salad last weekend at the NaNo TGIO party. And there were Blizzards from DQ last time the kidlet was here. I thought it couldn't be *too* bad though, because I'm now wearing a smaller size in jeans than I was at the last weigh-in. I was too scared to look, so I closed my eyes when the big moment came...and was very surprised when she did a little squee--I lost another 3lbs! That brings my total since I started in early August to 16 pounds and 19 total inches lost. Wooohooo! :D

I'm nervous about next time already, lol. Over the next three weeks there are going to be SOOOOO many temptations to dodge, what with my birthday this weekend, Christmas next week, and the big family holiday party the week after. *headdesk* I see a LOT more soups and salads in my future for the rest of this year, lol!
katstales: (John-CG ouch)
Not me, but my daughter fell on the ice at a gas station and hit her head. Hard. There was a doctor there from Scott Airbase and he told her she needed to get checked out right away. Well, she doesn't have insurance of her own and has long ago passed the age where she can be covered under ours, so she didn't want to go. The owner of the station was out of the country and the guy he left in charge insisted it was her own fault. "You knew it was icy out there so you should have been more careful." Yeah, right.

Anyway, rather than have to go to court to fight the guy for medical expenses, she decided to wait and only go if it gets worse. (So far, she's doing okay, but I'm keeping a rather close eye on her.) I was going to stay home from Curves and just go tomorrow, but she insisted she'd be okay for an hour. And besides, she says, I wouldn't mind having a fountain Diet Coke from somewhere, but I don't feel like going after it myself. (*snort* Right, like I was going to let her get behind the wheel today...) So I go across the street to Sonic before heading off to Curves and the stupid drink holder tipped over on me. So I had to stop and clean up an entire 44oz soda from my passenger side floorboard before I could actually go workout. *sigh* Then R had to work late, so dinner was late, too.

All I can say now is thank goodness Monday is all but over with! Though the way things are going, the freezing rain they're predicting for tonight (yes, again, for the third night in a row) will finally materialize in a big way and leave us without power or something. *headdesk*

Okay, time to go check on the concuss-ee again.
katstales: (NaNo-More Poison)
Wooooohoooooo!! IdiditIdiditIdiditIdidit!!! *does the happy dance of bliss*

Yup, I officially (as in validated by NaNo and everything!) hit the 50k mark a little while ago. The story isn't quite finished yet, but it is close. So I'll still be going to the write-ins this week because I really want to finish the story this time around. :D

So here's my nifty winner's badge:

And here's the official counter with all of my 50116 words on it. Maybe. If it finally decides to update someday. *g*

Now I'm going to go sleep for awhile and try to convince myself that I am not allowed to celebrate toooooo much until the blasted story is actually completely finished. *headdesk* LOL!

katstales: (NaNo-Dec for Sleep)
Oy, these past few days have been INSANE! R on vacation + Thanksgiving holidays + Christmas shopping + NaNo = NO online playtime for Kat. *pouts* Can you believe that?!!

It's all in the details! )

So after getting home from Riley's, instead of doing laundry I put in a few more hours of writing. The current totals are...*insert drumroll* 44177 words--which means my one day total for yesterday? Six. Thousand. Words. Holy Moley, I don't think I've ever done six thousand words in twelve hours before!

My apologies to all for being AWOL these past few days. There was just no time, you know? Nonetheless, I do hope all of you had a GREAT holiday (for those who celebrate it) and a fantastic weekend, too! I'll be trying to catch up with comments and such, but realistically that likely will not happen until the end of the week when NaNo is over with for another year--and hopefully by then I'll be having one of NaNo's nifty little purple bars by my name on their site and a certificate that proudly proclaims that I'm a winner again this year! :D

Now it's off to pack up Rad (my lappy) and head out to Starbucks for today's write-in! Hmm...wonder if I can pull off another 6k today??? :D

katstales: (NaNo-Dec for Sleep)
More decent progress this weekend both yesterday at Riley's Coffee and Fudge and again today at Starbucks. (I even got free coffee out of it today--Starbucks gave both R and I a coupon because our order was delayed--wooohoo!!!) So anyway, I'm now even with the daily target for finishing on time; by tonight I should be pulling a day ahead. Things have now begun to pick up a bit once i realized that the chapter two I had been writing was not chapter two after all. It was actually the last chapter of the book, which meant there was another chapter two that I hadn't even conceived of yet. Well huh. Who knew? So now I have conceived of it and it's coming along at a fairly decent pace. *whew!* Let's hope it continues to plod merrily along now! Oh, and I've crossed the 30000 word barrier (31713 to be exact about it) at last. Go me! LOL!!

Here's the gadget widget:

And now I plan on taking my own advice and doing exactly that--going in and seeking out the square-ish thing that be squishy and comfy to lay on. I have no idea what to do when I get there, but I'm sure I will figure it out. Hopefully *before* I lose the battle with my eyelids to keep them open.

katstales: (NaNo-More Poison)
And I made it to 25k with few extra words to spare! *does happy dance* I needed almost 3000 words when I got to the Write-In at Starbucks last night. It was supposed to run from 6-8, but there were a few of us who stayed later. I finally hit 25k at llpm and packed it in to head for home.

Gotta say, I dearly *LOVE* that place! The manager for evenings is just awesome and remembered me from the last write-in. Now, this Starbucks just opened last Friday and has been swamped ever since, both at the counter and the drive-thru. There has had to have been literally hundreds of people come and go every day since last Sunday when I was there, so I thought it was kind of cool that she remembered me. And they got the white chocolate in (they were out on Sunday :() so I finally got to try the peppermint white chocolate mocha--tis GOOD stuff! I'm thinking that if I hit a block or just a slow progress day again, I'm going down there to write, as I've made more progress there than anywhere else. LOL, somehow I see a LOT of coffee in my future there. *giggles*

So here's the latest progress widget for 25750:

So Happy Friday everyone!! And tonight is new SGA here--SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

katstales: (Nano-maddest of all)
We had our first write-in at the new Starbucks in town tonight--it was AWESOME! From the Peppermint Mocha coffee to the leather easy chairs to the abundance of electrical outlets within easy reach, it was fantastic--very comfy seating, very yummy drinks, and very homey atmosphere. I'm looking forward to spending the next few Thurs and Sun nights there already! :)

As far as progress, it went pretty well again. I'm still slightly ahead of my target numbers, sitting at just over 19k now. Should have 20k by the end of the day, if all continues to go well.

And since that one does not seem to want to update properly, let's try a small one also. *g*

Now I'm off to find where I left the bed. I know it's around here *somewhere*!

katstales: (Nano-be evil)
Wow, what a day, lol. I left for the write-in at 1:30 this afternoon and didn't get home until after 10pm...whooops. *g* I made pretty decent progress--this in spite of one of the major characters *totally* re-writing an entire chapter on me. *le sigh* But I did make my word count for the day, plus a teeny bit extra besides. And I had the pick two at St. Louis Bread Company for dinner and did not totally blow my calorie count for the day, so that was good too. :D (Four of us left Riley's at 7pm and went to StL Bread Co to write for another couple of hours.) So my total word count is now sitting at just over 17k total--woohoo!!

My NaNoWriMo Progress

Tomorrow...er, make that today...there is another write-in. This one will be at the newly-opened Starbucks here in C'ville so I just have to make that one! *giggles* Hope you are all having a great weekend!!

*wanders off in search of bed*

katstales: (NaNo-Dec for Sleep)
What an awesome day! I expected that the results of weigh-and-measure day at Curves would not be good at all (bad month with big celebration dinners and far too much ice cream!) To my complete shock, I ended up losing 7lbs and 5.25 inches since last month--go me! LOL!! :D

Anyway, in spite of being distracted by new episode of SGA on SciFi, I managed to stay on track for winning this thing and hit my 15000 words mark for the day. WoooHoo!!

My NaNoWriMo Progress

Tomorrow is the Write-in at Riley's Coffee and Fudge, so I'm hoping to really gain some ground. Busy times coming up toward the end of the month and I want to have some wriggle-room there!

Have a super Saturday, everyone!

*stumbles off to bed*
katstales: (NaNo-More Poison)
I'm now at just over 13500 words and *finally* back on track to keep up with the daily average to finish on time. *does happy dance*
Here are the details:

My NaNoWriMo Progress

Happy Friday everyone! Which of course means new SGA tonight!! *does the happy dance* And if that's not enough...tis WEEKEND--woooooohooooo!! :D

katstales: (NaNo-Official Logo animated)
...Chris Baty? It's me, Kat. I was just wondering...

Is it still a grievous infraction of NaNo laws rules if I only cleaned half the stove? And I admit that I did wash all of the dishes, but that was right before dinner and since we've now eaten there are more dirty dishes in the sink, so does that count, too??? Oh, and I'm sorry, but I do draw the line at recycling undies, so I did laundry today also.

As penance for my crimes errors in judgment, I have vowed to at least double my normal amount of caffeine consumption for the day. To that end, I am now almost halfway through my second 44oz Diet Coke since noon. If this is not an acceptable atonement, I will sorta gladly submit to whatever punishment you deem appropriate. Probably.

Amen.

katstales: (NaNo-Caffeine Lethal Dose)
I'm *almost* caught up now on my average word count. Despite a busy day of running errands, a session with the back-cracker (whose partner wants to actually read my novel...now--eeeeeep!), stopping in Curves for a work-out, and then going to a write-in at St. Louis Bread Co in Edwardsville (20 min north of here). Hopefully tomorrow will also be productive and I can finally get fully caught up again! Here are the vitals:

My NaNoWriMo Progress

I hope those of you also participating are having much success thus far--and just as much fun as I am! :D

For those of you not participating, I hope you're finding much success in whatever you're doing also. (I figure the fun part goes without saying, lol.) :D

Happy Thursday everyone!

katstales: (NaNo-Pitfall #2 Char Names)
So. It's now Nov 4 and NaNo is entering its fourth day. I'm on track now, finally, after spending the better part of the first two days arguing with the main character over what her name was going to be. Grrr.

The good news is that we finally managed to settle upon a name agreeable to both of us and the words have begun to flow pretty well the last two days. Here's the details so far:

Title: The Last Stormdancer
Words: 5009 total so far
Progress: Still on chapter one, but really, the major progress was getting the main character to agree to a more Native American-sounding name. :P

Happy Sunday and happy writing to all the authors on my flist. :D

Since I know she has a real soft spot for Brendan-as-a-child stories, I knew exactly what I should do. So even though I've significantly exceeded the word limit for a drabble, I hope you all enjoy it anyway. The first 5 people to comment on this post get to request a drabble of their choosing from me. In return, they HAVE to post this in their journal. The rule is, don't ask unless you plan to pass it on! I reserve the right to request a different prompt, but name your fandom (or don't) and a phrase, situation, title...

Note: If anyone who has already posted this would like to make a request, that's cool with me. :)

katstales: (John-this sucks)
Ugh, I've been *horrible* about posting updates here again. *sigh* Between sinus problems, out-of-control allergies, and RL stuff, I haven't gotten nearly as much writing done as I'd like. Still, I did manage to get to Curves 3 times last week and once this week already, so that's at least something. Here's the latest pathetic report:

Words: 2401 since last update; 13772 of 35000 for the month so far
Fics: Still struggling with the untitled ficathon story, plus my parts of the co-written SGA story
Progress: 1441 words on SGA ficathon story; 960 on untitled SGA co-writing project
Speed of Writing: Pathetic. I've *really* got to step things up here and soon. Maybe once I have my new Season 3 DVD set tomorrow the muse will get re-inspired and really go to town for me. *crosses fingers*

This one was gakked from [livejournal.com profile] karri_kln1671 and [livejournal.com profile] padawan_aneiki and lots of other people on my f-list.

Comment here and I will reply to you and tell you what icon of yours I associate with you. Once I reply, please repost this in your own journal, because I want to know what icon you associate with me.

Damn. Now I guess I really do have to either go write some more or post a waaaaaay overdue update. *le sigh*

katstales: (Brendan-bottle)
Things went much better today (especially this evening) partly due to not having quite as bad of a headache but much more likely due to a little friendly word-count competition with [livejournal.com profile] alasse_fae. Thanks, my friend! :D

Words: 1764 on 9/5; 7024 of 35000 for the month so far
Fics completed: Still working on Maelstrom (Thoughtcrimes) and an untitled SGA fic that I'm co-writing with a friend. (I'm only counting the parts I write for the untitled fic.)
Progress: 1178 words on part 9 of Maelstrom (which is now at 15678 total words thus far) and 586 words on the untitled SGA fic.
Speed of Writing: Better than yesterday, but still plenty of room for improvement. I'll need to have more than this for daily word counts come November if I'm going to win at NaNoWriMo, after all.

So now am off to bed, but first must find tylenol and make sandwiches for R's lunch. Tomorrow, I plan to celebrate my success thus far with a little shopping spree on iTunes. (was going to do it tonight, but have pretty much run out of steam)

And as this is Thursday, I shall be dragging my sorry carcass off to Curves to workout...anyone out there care to join me? *hint,hint@you-know-who-you-are* :D

Happy Thursday, everyone!

katstales: (Brendan-bottle)
Not as much progress as I'd like, but considering the size of the headache I've had all evening, it's far more than I'd anticipated achieving.

Words: 1048 on 9/4; 5260 of 35000 for the month
Fics completed: Still working on Maelstrom (Thoughtcrimes)
Progress: Finished part 8 and began part 9
Speed of Writing: crap. I really, really, really need to find a way to pick up the pace very soon or I'll never make my goal. :P

Now I be off to raid the Tylenol bottle again and faceplant. Hopefully headache will have been banished to oblivion by tomorrow and I'll be able to make some real progress on this thing.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!
katstales: (John-Not amused)
All in all, it was a rather frustrating day...

Words: 1102 words on 9/3; 4212 of 35000 for the month thus far
Fics Completed: Still working on Maelstrom (Thoughtcrimes).
Progress: went back and tweaked beginning of part 8, plus have begun the actual confrontation between Brendan and his nemesis.
Speed of Writing: Way too slow. I really, really need to pick up the pace if I'm going to achieve my goal.

On the non-writing front:

Loads of laundry finished: 2
Loads of laundry still waiting: 3
Hours hubby was late getting back for dinner: 2
Hours I had to wait to go to grocery store because hubby had only key to car with him: 3
Number of times I got pissed at hubby today: too many to count

And now I am off to faceplant into pillow. Must go to Curves tomorrow and work off all the bad-snasty calories I consumed this weekend!! Must also clean kitchen and finish putting away groceries that I did not feel like messing with tonight. :P

Have a terrific Tuesday, everyone!! *huggles*
katstales: (Default)
And then I be off to dreamland! Made decent progress today, I suppose, but I am going to have really step it up if I'm going to maintain this type of count. :)

Words Written: 2079 on 9/2; 3110 of 35000 for month so far
Fic Completed: Still working on Maelstrom (Thoughtcrimes fic).
Progress: Finished Chapter 7 and began chapter 8. Almost to big confrontation between bad guy and hero.
Speed of Writing: Need to pick up the pace. I was able to spend far more time writing today than usual, so I need to step up the pace if I'm going to maintain this much word count.

Hope everyone is having a truly awesome holiday weekend! If you have Monday off from work, enjoy and have fun! If not...wow, that sucks! *huggles* :D Have a grand old time no matter what your agenda and good night, my dear friends, good night!

Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] angeloftheruse and [livejournal.com profile] karri_kln1671. I think I've done this one before, but I've added at least another 2k songs since then so I thought I'd give it another go. :)

First, ze rulez for anyone who might want to play:

Get your ipod or media-player of choice, select your whole music collection, set the thing to shuffle (i.e., randomized playback), then post the first ten songs that come out. No cheating, no matter how stupid it makes you feel!

My Ten Songs:
1) The End Has Only Begun - Lifehouse
2) Lost Inside of You - Barbara Streisand & Kris Kristofferson
3) Here's to You - Rascal Flatts
4) Hung Up - Madonna
5) In the Rain - Dramatics
6) O What a Thrill - The Mavericks
7) Believe In You (Radio Mix) - Amanda Marshall
8) Let's Talk About Love - Celine Dion
9) Voice Mail #2 - Original Broadway Cast of 'Rent'
10) Reelin' In the Years - Steely Dan

So. I joined the [livejournal.com profile] ficfrenzy comm. My goal is to write 35000 words during the month of September as a warm up for NaNoWriMo in November. I hope to complete my current Thoughtcrimes fic and as many of my PIF stories as possible. Oh, and I also need to have my story for the [livejournal.com profile] sheps_atlantis ficathon finished by Sept 20.

So I'll be posting daily progress reports again, which I've been very lax about lately. Now on to business. Progress for day 1 was not too bad, I suppose, considering it was hubby's birthday and I spent the afternoon and most of the evening with him instead of writing. :D

Word Count: 1031 words for the day (Sept 1); 1031 total words for the month so far
Fics Completed: Still working on Pt. 7 of Maelstrom (Thoughtcrimes)
Progress: Finished first part of flashback scene and began second flashback.
Speed of Writing: So-so. Need to step things up if I'm going to hit my goal of 35000 words for the month.

We'll be staying close to home for the most part tomorrow, so hopefully that will mean a great deal of progress on fic!

1) I'm a total absolutely hopeless Diet Coke addict. I can drink other diet colas, but give me a choice and Diet Coke is my drink.

2) I'm also a completely hopeless night owl. If I try to go to sleep before 1am, I'll be awake within an hour and up for the rest of the night.

3) I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters, all of whom are now married. Holiday gatherings with only my immediate family can have up to 31 people and tend to be a bit...noisy. *g*

4) In two months, my hubby and I will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary.

5) I have never, ever been stung by a bee, wasp, or hornet and am deathly afraid of them.

6) When I was a kid, our family had a retired police dog for a pet, a German Shepard named Satan.

7) I skipped kindergarten and went straight into first grade when I started school.

Comment and I'll give you a letter. Then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. After, post this in your journal, and give out some letters of your own. Let me know if you want a letter.

This post is brought to you by the letter 'M', given to me by [livejournal.com profile] padawan_aneiki.

PIF Meme

Got this meme from seems like half of my flist, most of whom got it from [livejournal.com profile] sgatazmy:

PIF meme: I will send a gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment here in my LJ requesting to join this PIF (Pay-It-Forward) exchange. You will receive it within 365 days (actually probably a lot less than that). The only thing you have to do in return is "pay it forward" by making a similar agreement on your blog.

Oh! Look at the pressies! )

Title: The Silent Twins
Author: [livejournal.com profile] katstale
Rating: PG-13 or Older Teens
Fandom: Thoughtcrimes
Category: Gen
Word Count: 7500 even
Challenge: The Random Title Generator Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl's journal.
Characters: Freya and Brendan, with a bit of Michael near the end
Warnings: Some violence and very slight language. (Yes, I did whump Brendan. :D)
Summary: Brendan and Freya travel upstate to look for clues in the disappearance of a rich businessman. Only things don't quite go according to plan. Whumping ensues.
Notes: I was originally planning to write an SGA story for this challenge, but when I saw the second title in the list, it turned sideways on its head and started jumping up and down, screaming "BRENDAN!!!" at the top of its lungs in my ear. So really, how could I not do a Thoughtcrimes fic after that happened???

Part Two )

So I still totally suck at regular updates. *le sigh* But I did manage to finally finish the fic, so I guess that's something. Hope you enjoy!

Not much progress again, but some is better than none I suppose. Here are the numbers for today:

Fandom: Thoughtcrimes
Challenge: Random Title Generator Challenge
Title: The Silent Twins
Words: 625 on 07/16 (3695 total words so far)
Progress: Finished Brendan's questioning of the twins, but oh dear, Brendan seems to have picked up a bit of an owie. :O

*snicker*

Now off to find meds and do a faceplant into pillow. Have another whole week of early meds after visiting the doc's today. Yippy-skippy. :P

katstales: (Brendan Freya-Thoughtcrimes)
*sigh* I was supposed to be off to bed over an hour ago, but the muse decided we should write more on the current project first. She doesn't seem to care that I have to be up early for medication or that I have a follow up appointment about my stupid ear *and* we're out of everything so I also have to stop for groceries. Blech. Anyway, here are the latest numbers:

Fandom: Thoughtcrimes
Challenge: Random Title Generator Challenge
Title: The Silent Twins
Words: 594 words on 07/15 (3081 total so far)
Progress: Finished the second scene and started on the third scene where Brendan and Freya meet the twins for the first time. Things are going to heat up very soon...look out Brendan! LOL!

Now I *MUST* be off to bed. Am seriously hoping that they can do something to finally get this stupid ear to open up and *stay* open when I go to the Doc's--wish me luck! :P
katstales: (Brendan car)
Before I go collapse into bed, here's a quick update on the latest story:

Fandom: Thoughtcrimes
Challenge: Random Title Generator Challenge
Title: The Silent Twins
Word Count: 1435 words since last update (2225 total so far) Due to tweaking and additions, it was more trouble than it was worth to figure out a total for the day so I just went from last update instead. :P
Progress: Have finished opening scene as well as the next scene. Am now ready to start on part three. I seriously thought this story would run maybe 2k total words, but I'm already over than and only about half finished. Ooops.

Now I must go faceplant into pillow. Gotta be up early for hubby to help with the ear drops that don't seem to be having much effect. *sigh*

katstales: (Poor Drowned Rat-dog)
So, finally getting to post another update here. I've been very neglectful of LJ outside of the most recent fic posted, so I'm sorry for that. Between hubby's taking vacation days, grankidlet antics, and other family stuff, playtime has been limited. :P

And sadly, my beloved little Furball has left this world. The entire family was there with him on the final trip to the vet and stayed with him until the end. I was pretty much a wreck for days afterward. It's still hard and I still expect him to be there waiting with toy in mouth and tail wagging at the top of the stairs every time I come home. My emotions are pretty much at odds right now. Part of me wants wants to wait for a very long time before even thinking about another mutt, but the other part is screaming at me--loudly!--to find another mutt to join our family. I suppose we'll have to wait and see which part eventually wins out.

Oh, that's right, I promised an update, didn't I? So I guess this is the part where I own up to the current projects and admit how little I've been doing lately. :P Okay, so without further delay, here are the gruesome stats:

Fandom: Thoughtcrimes
Title: The Silent Twins
Words: 790 words total so far
Progress: Still working on opening scene, though it's almost finished--finally. Background has been set and the action can now begin! Er, almost. *giggles*

So hopefully updates will be more regular again, but I'm not holding my breath. :P

And finally, we leave you with a meme. This was gakked from [livejournal.com profile] karri_kln1671.

My Fantasy Archetype is... )

Have a great Sunday everyone! *hugs*

Title: Legacy of the Last
Author: [livejournal.com profile] katstale
Rating: PG
Category: Gen
Word Count: 9050
Characters: John & Rodney, with a little Carson and Lorne thrown in
Pairings: None
Challenge: Um, not really a challenge per se, but [livejournal.com profile] karri_kln1671 asked for a Sheplantis story.
Spoilers/Warnings: Spoilers for The Return, Pt. 2 (season 3); much whumping of various characters--especially John. :D
Summary: When random systems on Atlantis begin shutting down for no apparent reason, Rodney and John are cut off from the rest of the city. Then John suffers an attack of unknown origin and collapses and it's up to Rodney to find out what's happening and why--before it's too late for both Sheppard and the city.
Notes: This is unashamedly and unabashedly a Sheplantis story (Sheppard and his gene interacting with the city). If you dislike stories where Atlantis appears almost sentient, then you'll probably want to give this one a pass. :)

For the girls in chat, who never cease to amaze and inspire me. You guys are AWESOME!
