Okay, so today the electrician shows up to try and fix whatever is making the lights flicker in my bedrooms. So what happens? Nothing. Not so much as a teensy-weensy little dimming.

Wonderful. He says he suspected there might be a problem with the meter banks on Tues, but they couldn't find anything wrong to justify replacing them. So he proceeds to look at and test everything he can think of to look at and test outside. Can't find anything wrong. He comes inside our apartment (because for whatever reason, the neighbors upstairs and next door are suddenly denying that anything amiss has been happening with their power) and proceeds to check out and test our panel. Same results, can't find a thing wrong. He decides there is nothing left to do, so he packs it in and leaves. Says to let the management co know if the problems continue.

Things were fine all afternoon. No flickering or dimming lights, no slow down/speed up of the fan, etc. I finish up on the last of the laundry from earlier in the week and go run some errands. Hubs gets home and we go out for dinner; get home around 7:30-ish. I do a little straightening up and then sit down and boot up the laptop. My iPod is getting to the point of needing a charge and I have some music to transfer over, so I open up iTunes and hooked it up. Hubs is back in the bedroom on the desktop working on email for his eBay stuff. All is good...until around 8:30. ::insert absurd levels of snarkiness here:: You'll never guess what happened next!

::sighs::

So I call the management company to report the problem. While I'm on the phone, the guy from next door comes over to see if we're having any outtage issues. Like us, the rooms that were not having problems initially (before Tuesday's outtage) are the ones that are now out. For us, it's not so bad, our bedrooms are the only rooms affected. Other than hubby's computer--including the router and modem--there is nothing that we'll miss that badly for a few days. For the neighbor, it's their living room and kitchen.

Back to the phone call, the management company says there's nothing they can do tonight (Well duh, it's dark out there--he wouldn't be able to see what he's doing!). She seems to think that the power will come back on it's own once the peak demand is over. ::rolls eyes:: Suuuure it will. She then goes on to say that they'll get the electrician back out here on Monday. Monday? You've got to be kidding me! There is no freakin' reason on earth that people should be expected to go without power in their kitchen until Monday.

Her solution for the neighbor's refrigerator problem is that *he* should go out and buy an extension cord and run it to the one of the rooms that does have power. Um, excuse me, but we pay you people rent to fix stuff like this in a timely manner--and buying expensive extension cords that we have no need for otherwise seems rather unreasonable to me. Anyway, we've already decided that we're calling again in the morning and "strongly requesting" that someone be sent out then. They're going to make AT&T pay for it anyway, so why do we have to wait? (BTW, they were thrilled with the photos I took and said that after viewing them there was NO way AT&T would be able to deny responsibility.)

So we'll see how things go. For now, I've run an extension cord for the router and modem so that we have internet access with the laptop. But if they don't come and fix it tomorrow, I'll have to share the laptop with hubs...which means that much less time I can work on my NaNo project. And I'll be lucky today to hit 1k, let alone 2.

::sighs::

Now I'm off to find chocolate and see where I can get with The Gates of Annwn before bed.
